AI Policy
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
MISYKAT: Jurnal Ilmu-ilmu Al-Qur'an, Hadist, Syariah dan Tarbiyah sets out the following rules on the use of generative AI and AI-assisted tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot) by authors, editors, and reviewers, in line with COPE guidance.
1. Authors
- AI is not an author. AI tools cannot be listed as an author or co-author because they cannot take responsibility for the work.
- Permitted use. AI may be used to improve language and readability, or for technical help such as formatting references, under the authors' full control.
- Mandatory disclosure. Every article must contain an AI Use Statement (before the References) stating whether AI was used, which tool, and for what purpose. If no AI was used, authors state: “No generative AI tools were used in the preparation of this article.”
- Prohibited use. AI must not be used to fabricate or manipulate data, sources, citations, or images, or to generate the scholarly analysis presented as the authors' own work.
- Responsibility. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of the article, including verifying every citation, Qur'anic verse, and hadith.
2. Editors
- Editors must not upload manuscripts or parts of them to generative AI tools.
- AI may not replace the editor's scholarly assessment or editorial decision. Limited use for technical tasks (e.g. language checks of the journal's own texts) must be disclosed within the editorial team, and editors remain fully responsible for their decisions.
3. Reviewers
- Reviewers must not use AI to analyse, assess, or write review comments on a manuscript.
- Reviewers must not enter or upload a manuscript, or any part of it, into any AI application, to protect confidentiality.
4. Violations
Undisclosed or prohibited use of AI is handled under the Publication Ethics and Research Misconduct policies and may lead to rejection, correction, or retraction.
