Peer Review Policy
Peer Review Policy
All research and review articles submitted to MISYKAT: Jurnal Ilmu-ilmu Al-Qur'an, Hadist, Syariah dan Tarbiyah undergo a double-blind peer review: the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other. The process follows the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.
1. Initial Screening and Similarity Check
The editor checks every submission for fit with the Focus and Scope, compliance with the Author Guidelines, and originality using similarity-check software (Turnitin). Manuscripts with an overall similarity above 20% (see Plagiarism Policy) or outside the scope are returned or rejected before review. This stage normally takes up to 2 weeks.
2. Number and Qualifications of Reviewers
- Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two (2) independent reviewers, preferably from different institutions and, where possible, from different countries.
- Reviewers are experts in the subject of the manuscript (Qur'anic studies, Hadith, Shari'ah, or Islamic education), hold a doctoral degree or equivalent expertise, and have a publication record in national accredited or international journals in the last three years.
- Reviewers are not members of the Editorial Board handling the manuscript and must have no conflict of interest with the authors. The list of reviewers is available on the Peer Reviewers page.
3. Review Criteria
Reviewers assess: relevance to the journal scope; originality and contribution to knowledge (state of the art and research gap); clarity of objectives; appropriateness of methodology; depth of analysis and discussion; validity of conclusions; quality and currency of references (primary sources, last 10 years); and language and structure. Reviewers provide substantive comments using the journal review form in the OJS system.
4. Review Timeline
- Reviewers are asked to complete their review within 4 weeks of accepting the invitation.
- Authors are asked to return revised manuscripts within 2 weeks, with a response to each comment.
- The time from submission to first decision is normally 4–8 weeks.
5. Editorial Decision
Based on at least two review reports, the editor decides: accept, minor revisions, major revisions, or reject. When reviewers disagree, the editor may invite an additional reviewer. Revised manuscripts may be sent back to the reviewers. The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision, independently of the publisher and free from commercial influence. All review activity is conducted and recorded in the OJS editorial system.
6. Confidentiality and Use of AI
Manuscripts are confidential. Reviewers must not share them or use unpublished content for their own research, and must not use artificial intelligence tools to analyse, assess, or write review comments, or upload any part of a manuscript to such tools (see AI Policy). Conflicts of interest are handled under the Conflict of Interest Policy.
